Dry Eye Disease and IRPL Treatment

.

Meibomian gland dysfunction has been identified as a principal cause of dry eye disease. It results in the tear film becoming unstable, leading to insufficient production, or excessive evaporation of tears. It is now acknowledged that most cases of evaporative dry eye are primarily due to a compromised external lipid layer of the lacrimal film, caused by malfunctioning meibomian glands.

Testing for Meibomian gland dysfunction is a critical step in identifying dry eye disease.  Ask about our meibomian gland imaging and dry eye disease testing.

Compared to traditional methods of treating dry eye disease, IRPL is a much more precise and targeted treatment compared to IPL. Therefore, it can restore the normal activity of the meibomian glands with very rapid improvement for the patient from the very first session (20-25% more effective than first session with IPL) and the long-lasting effect is expected for minimum 6 months up to 3 years thus requiring much less maintenance treatments.
